we had a 'robot' that would allow you to program a whole bunch of conditions in what amounted to a 96 well plate in a glovebox but only one person in the group used it. apparently it was a pain in the ass to learn to use it.

That's great. I'm tired of learning "effect of pH" or "effect of temperature" on several papers instead of using a simple 2^n design or similar.
