The creative and cognitive peak of my (otherwise pathetic) existence was between 21-24.

Had I actually made good career choices and been luckier in life I'd project that peak academic performance is during 25-28. It's all downhill after, unless you're incredibly dysfunctional, neurologically well-preserved and highly specialized.

It's probably not too late to become a good engineer. Most engineers are shit at math so you'll have a leg up at least and maybe make some decent money before you retire.
