knew what Ancient Egypt was... supposedly in that time, European scholars only knew of Ancient Greece, they didn't understand Ancient Egyptian civilization until much later

Not really, because the research in Egypt were still ongoing and very few people were into this thing. We have a good knowledge about roman empire and ancient Greece thanks to roman writings. But we have nothing about ancient Egypt.
