I went to college for it and really didn't like it. First, I should state that it differs depending on which state you teach in. Some states just require a major in your subject and a license, other states have made it so you actually need a hybrid Subject/Education degree (English Ed., Math. Ed., History Ed., etc.). If you go to a state where you need the Education portion, you will actually have to learn pedagogy, which I fucked hated. It's one of the softest sciences of the social sciences, and if you are a STEMfag you will grit your teeth in learning it.
Assuming you get past that and actually start teaching, well it sucks too.
>Initially, you will not be able to find good teaching jobs, and will have to go to more desperate areas>Pay is shit>you are treated like a literal babysitter >students walk all over you. You feel like a giant cuck >red tape everywhere >no one actually gives a shit about what you teach them >work is actually really tiring, especially on your voice. It's just a very stressful job If you can start to work at better schools, it does get better.
I think being a teacher is for those who want to be instructors, and not necessarily for those who love the subject or actual education. The teaching route is very female dominated for that reason. If you are instead someone who has a passion for the subject yet also wants to research and teach others along the way, go the professor route.
