Of the remaining rich people - those that made themselves rich - there are two distinct camps.
The first consists of individuals that are usually fairly smart, but their success stems from their initiative and, most notably, their brutality - their lack of empathy when it comes to business dealings. In other words, their intelligence is not particularly exceptional, but they definitely exceed a baseline level that enables them to turn their ambition into reality. I would say most "I built this empire from nothing" CEOs fall into this category.
The second camp consists of extremely intelligent people that are often the brains behind one or more successful operations, but are not usually the ones you hear about since they are not front and center in popular media. As you can imagine, these types are usually the right-hand people of those in category one.
There are likely exceptions to these, but they are rare. This is just what I have noticed over the years.
