Is very ambiguous however. Could be stated as

>I want something, but not anything

Or

> I want nothing at all to happen

The problem is that the subject of the sentence is unclear. English, especially written English, is really crap at conveying meaning as it has all but lost it's formal rules. However, it is (probably) the richest language in terms of total vocabulary so it does have that going for it. Which of course makes choosing words even harder.

Surely any here refers to all members of a given set/list? So when you press any key, you can press any button on the (typewriter) keyboard in front of you, but on the piano next to you. Then the negation would technically be something that is not a member of that set. Hiweve, the 'opposite' of pressing any key would be to press a specific key.

So something (or one thing) vs anything.
