It's the current year and plumbing is still a pain in the ass. Is the tech just at a limit and no scientific research can provide better alternatives?

Well if you want to buy a million drones to carry your pee and poo to little holes you dug with an excavator in a plot of land you bought, that wouldn’t clog. But yeah it would be quite expensive. Sacrifice one drone and a bit of land per pee or poo. Not optimal.

Tech isn't limited, but rather the amount of money people are willing to spend to put in place a self cleaning system is limited. Mainly because there's an easier time maintaining the system via regular fluid going the down the pipe to clean off the remnants.
