Graphene isn't the first material touted to replace silicon and it isn't the last, I reckon. But the main reason fabs haven't switched to graphene is the costs of designing and implementing a graphene fabrication process, and in turn basically junking existing silicon fabs, doesn't make any economic sense at this point. When a performance limit is truly hit (ie. when we've exhausted clock frequency, area, and power), we may see some chipsets designed for high performance computing switch over. And when that happens there may be a gradual change for other chips as well once the cost has been sunk for the initial startup of these new fabs. But again maybe some other alternative will be ready by then.
