as far as i know, in string theory the cosmological models all follow from a KKLT-like construction. in other words, if you want to construct a string-theoretic model for the universe, it involves stacking up a bunch of D-branes and intersecting them with one or more other D-branes. all with various fluxes and etc.

is my impression accurate? or at least approximately correct?

if so then i argue that string theory requires overly byzantine constructions for explaining the universe. anthropoid reasoning here might apply, but if so i feel it is just a justification for an overly complicated construction and fails to be a convincing argument for why this is the case.

so my question is: can string theory be beautified such that models are simple and beautiful? not a rube goldberg device to get what you want?
