If you ignore the bad parts and focus entirely on your cozy sheltered life I think it's pretty safe to assume something "intelligent" made it.
When you see how nature is full of grotesque horrifying shit that literally only seems justified in a "survival at all costs" scenario, the idea that it is some sort of optimization algorithm trying to create things that reproduce, whatever the means necessary, is infinitely more plausible.
