What IQ is needed to understand the math involved in numerical weather prediction? This looks impossible to calculate by hand?

why is the 2nd derivative involved in this calculation? I understand the dx dy and dx but why a 2nd derivative?

That's like junior level college to 1st years masters level depending on major. Probably 130-ish level up. Definitely doable by hand. My senior level college physics class had us doing stuff like that.
