What's the point of talking about trees as carbon sinks when all that carbon will go straight back to the atmosphere when the trees die?
Now admittedly permanently replacing open fields with forests does have a permanent effect but those forests aren't absorbing any carbon after they're fully grown.
The only way to make forests actual carbon sinks is to bury them deep under ground after they're fully grown. There they can't release the carbon into the atmosphere.
