this is probably a really stupid question but honest to god its been bugging me for awhile. a turbine generates power by a force applying against it to turn it right? like a windmill turbine, hydro, nuclear, steam, etc.

in a vacuum, an object in motion stays in motion unless another force of equal or greater acts upon it. well, if you spin a turbine in space it will keep spinning for nearly forever (as long as something else doesn't touch it) right? so doesn't this mean we could, technically, in space, create a power source that generates power without a need for fuel?

like use something to start the spinning of the turbine, but once it gets going, it won't stop. you don't need something to keep spinning it. so for a space station, not trapped in a orbit or something, can have a power source that never depletes then correct?

or am i just being retarded?
