Determining "what follows next in a sequence" based on some pattern is just guessing.

For example, 3,5,7,...

What comes next? 9 if its the sequence of odd positive integers. 11 if its the sequence of odd prime numbers.

Not only that, there is no reason why a sequence has to follow a pattern. For example, there is nothing stoping the sequence from repeating after 7 or picking some arbitrary value after 7.
