What's the most effecient studying method either proven or with significant results, regarding studying from textbooks?

I'm reading through a data comunications book and I'd like to compare how I'm studying it with what researchers and students/educators are convinced works. I think I'm going through it fairly fast, but I already was acquainted with some concepts. I'm trying to schedule out a feasible and realistic curriculum for myself but I don't want to have my expectations to be too crazy.
