Text book definitions are for insurance billing.
no I'm not joking or trolling.
Any good working psychologist will tell you this.
They understand the DSM and post DSM definitions are incredibly vague and broad compared to real people, but they need a label to send into billing

They don't. With autists it's an issue of telegraphing what's being felt. They display their emotions and empathetic responses in ways that are either completely opaque or just very idiosyncratic to the onlooker but this shouldn't be mistaken for an absense of those qualities. A psychopath on the other hand may blend into social convention with ease because it's entirely impersonal. The autistic tries to do this without malice but not without a great deal of mental energy. So I suppose it's true that both approach social interaction very analytically but this shouldn't be construed to mean they are at all the same or are motivated in the same way.
