Say they only want to play video games. You could ask them what they think of video games they play. Once they work in games a bit more analytically you could ask them later what they think a good video game would be and have you both work on it, you coding etc, then release it. So long as you keep the conversation on video game analyzation then it could spark an independent interest and you could say by the second or first game to type in some simple busy work like text boxes then work up. Just foster the spark and slowly integrate into application.
After the first spark try to carry that over foundationally to game theory stuff then philosophy, math or ai etc.
