Scenario: The world somehow agrees to detonate a single nuclear weapon (of any type currently available) with no negative effects to any aspect of the planet (unless that is specifically what is being tested). This detonation is for purely scientific research.

We did that already.
Underground, in space, in the middle of fuck all nowhere.

As for sensors it all depends on where you detonate it. We still have earthquake sensors specifically to detect underground nuclear tests.

Funny story about the space nuke tests, we destroyed the UK's first satellite when we did it, and a lot of people actually thought we were going to destroy the entire planet by nuking space, so we did it 11 times at once just to make sure.

after that we did Operation Fishbowl, and set off a nuke so large it created an artificial radiation band that is still in place today.
Then we did it a few more times.

Those rad zones are no satellite zones so if you live under one you get shit GPS.

I guess what I meant was current day sensors. Whether it be the high speed cameras available today or the various sensors that are in use in things like the LHC, or any other type of sensors that modern technology can provide, even if that means just a higher resolution/speed measurement such as a camera...

Well what are you looking for?
The reason we don't do nuclear tests anymore is because we have nukes solved. We tried to blow up the planet multiple times in multiple ways with nukes and pulled all the data we needed from that.

You could make a cool slowmo video with a modern camera of a nuke going off, but that's entertainment.

To be honest I don't know exactly what I am looking. It is a question (or a series of questions to be precise) that I have had running around in my head for many years after my secondary school physics classes as well as watching nuclear test videos and videos on topics dealing with elementary particles.

tldr: if the world could come together with a nuclear test (or series of tests), could we advance our understanding of the physics that underlie what we perceive to be reality?
