Do people in sciences read esoteric texts?

I've recenly started reading The Kybalion and, to my surprise, many of it's arguments are somewhat tied to propositions of set theory. If you manage to read it thoroughly and avoid the mystic aspects of it all, it makes sense.
It's most definitely close in structure to a math book in it's axiom-theorem-lemma-corolary structure.

I've also been reading The book of Abramelin and The Picatrix. I don't want to believe everything they say blindly because that never leads anywhere good but based on the text alone, it makes some decent aerguments for magic and such.
