>>12872351I don't know about the rest of the world but there is definitely a baby boom going on here in my Australian city. We just had our second child the other week so I had the opportunity to ask some of the midwives and doctors about the actual genuine stats - admissions are up 80% from previous years. Maternity units in all hospitals in my city are actually struggling due to an effective doubling of the birth rate.
An interesting thing that I noted anecdotally is that during all of our antenatal appointments, nearly all of the pregnant women were white with white partners. A substantial number of them already had at least one child.
When we had our first child back in 2018, it was maybe about 50 to 60% white.
From what I hear it's a similar situation in most of Australia. My best guess would be that us getting through the pandemic more smoothly than the rest of the world (Melbourne notwithstanding) with our initial lockdowns only lasting from March to May, followed by the relatively okay economic recovery immediately afterwards, ended up giving a lot of people a semblance of hope and optimism which has ended up convincing them to screw like rabbits. Just my opinion but along with the borders being shut this is probably the best thing demographically to happen to the white Australian population in decades.
Not sure about the rest of the world though. I imagine with all the doom and gloom and economic damage and uncertainty it's probably the reverse of our situation.
