My math teacher said that an infinite decimal expansion can be expressed as a ratio of rational integers and then used an infinite sum to show it. He then used this to prove 0.999..... is equal to 1 and said that the people who argue about this all day on internet threads are dumbasses. My math teacher called out /sci/, how does /sci/ feel about this.

OP probably phrased it poorly
i think the simple argument is this
$0.n_1n_2n_3n_4... = \sum_{k=1}^{\infty}\frac{n_k}{10^k}$ and from there you can show that if all n's are 9 then the infinite sum equals 1

If I say blue sky does that imply the existence of a red one? Sure adding Rational was redundant but I don't know if it necessarily implies the existence of non-rational integers, anyways saying Rational Integer can also distinguish it from other terminology that uses the word integer so it's not like it was completely useless.

It implies that there are differing qualia of skies, yes. Likewise, the distinction that OP's teacher makes implies that there is a thing to be distinguished. But, something something and then the Archimedean property implies that 1 minus 0.9999... cannot be other than 0, so there.

Redundancy does not imply this, we cannot logically go from the existence of a Blue Sky to the existence of a sky that is not Blue.

But I don't say that blue skies exist, I say that you say they exist. Therefore, in your conception non-blue skies must also exist (and blue non-skies as well), independent of whether your conception matches objective reality.

Wait it doesn't though, simply claiming the existence of unmarried bachelors does not mean there exists in my conception some bachelor other than unmarried. It just doesn't logically conclude, but we've literally just been running in circles here and there doesn't seem to be any point in continuing this so whatever.
