Is space exploration pointless?

Is space exploration just pop science, or perhaps cope by wizards unwilling to accept that the survival of our species is fundamentally intertwined with the habitability of this planet, which is about to enter a death spiral thanks to our neurotic perusal of progress which has persisted since the Enlightenment?
