Riddle me this marketing gurus and MBAs.
Why do we want people buying items at discounted rates?
Assuming we are not trying to get rid of overstock or soon-to-be out-of-season items:
What is the purpose of having discounts on highly in-demand items if they are going to get bought anyway? I.e why have promos on icecream on the hot days of summer?
It seems to me like people are going to buy the items anyway, so why bother lowering the price, if this does not increase revenue? I guess in some cases if you increase the amount bought of the item, you might get ahead. But I think these simple promos are not reaching such audiences, especially in this day of age, when everywhere you turn you see an ad.
