>>12860375Hydrogen has absolutely no use as a fuel and anyone saying otherwise is either lying or has no idea what he's talking about.
You lose 60% of energy in electrolysis, then 50% converting it back to electricity in fuel cell - that's losing 70% right of the bet.
Transporting and storing it is also ridiculously ineffective.
Cryogenic liquid hydrogen has on paper, weight for weight 2 times higher energy than gasoline, sure. But it's also 10 times less dense.
Your gas tank (cryogenic gas tank mind you) would need to be 5 times bigger than your gasoline tank it. You would also need 5 times as many tankers to haul it to gas stations, etc.
Compressed hydrogen is even more ludicrous.
How much hydrogen you think can this baby hold at full capacity? 25 kg? 5 kg? nope. About 400g. About as much energy as 1L of gasoline. The empty cylinder alone weighs about 50kg btw.
Loses over leaks are hard to estimate, but for the reference, with natural gas we lose 10% to leaky pipes, valves and tanks.
Solar panels produce electricity, just use it directly
you lose 5% moving it around over cables and and then 1% storing it in batteries.
