>>12861789I'm not sure why the conversation disintegrated so quickly. You asked a question and I was quite happy to answer it and give reference to read on where this is coming from. There's no need for hostility when all we're doing is having a discussion around an idea.
You asked for an explanation of Bohm's wavefunction but you've apparently got your own idea of what it is already, it being some local thing. I'd be interested to see where you read this as I've read a fair amount of Bohm's stuff and this seems to be quite at odds with what I recall him writing. He was well aware that you needed to choose between reality and locality, and he was very clear about deciding on reality in physics.
And yes, we're not in disagreement on the issues with nonlocality. Inserting it into a theory as is done with pilot wave theory is a bit like inserting God, because you can get away with a whole lot. Bohmian mechanics in principle does imply that something happening on Jupiter may affect you here on earth instantly for example.
The part of the argument with grandfather paradoxes etc I think is a bit popsci.
As for Bohm being a retard, while he certainly had some personal quirks in his philosophical views, his work is more than adequate to defend his intellectual status so I can only assume this is frustration.
By contrast I've found that many people seem to have a real axe to grind with Bohmian mechanics in particular and want to get into name calling and everything. It's quite bizarre especially since as
>>12861480 quite rightly pointed out, when you have a particle which isn't operating back on the wavefunction you can basically ignore the particle and reduce it to many worlds, which people still accept as a valid way of looking at things. Largely it's a kneejerk reaction from historical misconceptions and the pernicious shut up and calculate mentalities that dominate due to the way physics is structured now.
Feel free to insult me more if you want though.
