Well they don't want to call it "Church complete".

The only significant contribution of Turing is that his model of comparability is more intuitive and acceptable to normies. Other theorists like Church would never construct something so ugly. They are content that their definition of comparability is obviously correct to mathematicians, they don't care to convince the normies.

Not the guy you're talking about, but computability /recursion theory *is* important logic at large. Relativization techniques from recursion are used in other areas like descriptive set theory, and researchers starting where Turing left off (think Kleene and Post's Turing Degrees results) have provided logicians with rich theory to work with. It's hard not to see if you've studied logic to any degree above Shoenfield.
This is almost as naive as asking "When would graph theory ever help me in logic? "
