I was in grad school at the time (defended late last year) and my productivity took a goddamn nose dive not because of work from home, but because all my work shit did not seem important compared to everything else going on. Also the inability to do anything social/workout for nearly a year completely fucks people up.
A proper comparison would be a non-covid world where a whole semester was split remote/in class 50/50 with students randomly allocated to each group or something.
