You can't really say that momentum has to be preserved because modeling the situation as a closed system doesn't really make sense, does it?
Effectively you are converting chemical energy, which is not part of the system, to kinetic energy which you put into the system.
If you had strong enough muscles would you be able to pull yourself out?
