3D spaces can be curved. A 3-sphere is positively curved. It's the solution to x^2 + y^2 + z^2 + w^2 = 1 in R^4.

I agree. It isn't though the full story of the cosmos is probably more complicated than one 4D Minkowski space, where Minkowski space space is the flat limit of both of spherically and hyperbolically curved de Sitter and anti-de Sitter spaces of respective uniform positive and negative curvature.
