I have found a carbon substance on the internet which i find very interesting. It's called glassy carbon, and it has properties of both graphite (conductivity, heat resistance, chemical inertness) and glass (hardness, non porousness). Apparently it can be made by carbonizing furan resin or phenolic resin. Have any of you worked with this stuff? I'm surprised it's not found anywhere outside of research, as it could likely make superior electrodes and crucibles compared to graphite.
