The Beatles have a TON of variety and nuance in their music, particularly their later albums (duh). Some of the subtleties can only be picked up when you listen carefully and are intelligent enough to remember how the first 2 choruses are different from the 3rd, etc. Really fantastic stuff, man.
Radiohead is another good one. Their first two albums are good, if not great, but from OK Computer onward they don't have 2 songs that are alike. Oodles of variety, lots of experimentation, some songs that miss the mark, but plenty of interesting stuff that displays high intelligence and the technical know-how to bring these ideas to life.
Yes, 4chan will make fun of Beatles fans and Radiohead fans. But their music speaks for itself: variety, experimentation, interesting subtleties, and the skill to execute. Displays of high intelligence and creativity.
