I think number theory is being slept on in terms of use. There are tons of number structures and we mostly sit on a one dimensional linear system which looks nothing like how anything in reality looks or modular arithmetic on a good day.

My take is that one can get results from number theory and for arbitrary rings and fields with abstract algebra so number theory is pretty useless. Lets be real, learning more about the primes won't further our understanding more than focusing on other stuff.

I totally agree I think all math disciplines should be morphed into one. The disciplines are doing the same stuff just with different criteria. Usually same formulas too.
