If there are alien civilizations somewhere, I don't think they bother expanding very far. Because at some stage, what's even the point. It's essentially just samey randomly generated terrain, how many places are you going to check out before you just start gathering the stuff that you need and ignoring everything else. There's no reason for a species to spread all over the galaxy, if you have enough resources with one or two planets. The Fermi paradox is no paradox, the aliens are simply just hanging out in their corner of the galaxy jacking off to VR porn
