I want to discover the composition of a substance. Which lab test should I look for? How much can it cost?

As far as i know a mass spectrometer would be the most effective, though if it is an as of yet unknown sustance, you might need to combine different forms of spectroscopy and maybe even some electron microscope images (especially if its an unknown protein.).

Depends on if you have a matrix or not. Pure substance go for IR or if you have money go for NMR

Based on OP's phrasing I would guess he doesn't have a protein. If it is a protein he needs to get a sequencing analysis which is usually done with MS. Depending on the complexity of the protein it can be something OP can do for himself with some basic knowledge of reading MS spectra

If you suspect, that it's composed, dissolve it and put it in centrifuge.

Individual substances can go trough drop tests, with reagents.

Then last resort is chromatography, and lastest resort is X-Ray crystalloscopy

It's magnetic properties, if it's diamagnetic, paramagnetic, ferromagnetic.

I've never known standard definitions of this magnetic things, and I think a lot of people there use different even standard naming.
