How tf 5 one fourth equal to 21 fourth? I'm tryna learn math and can't wrap my head around it.

1 is equal to four fourths
2 is equal to eight fourths
3 is equal to twelve fourths
4 is equal to sixteen fourths
5 is equal to twenty fourths
Each whole number can be broken into fractions and reassembled.

Just draw 21 quarter disks. Like 21 fat slices of pizza, slices exactly the size that 4 slices is a whole pizza. Then draw them by grouping them in 4. You will have 5 whole pizzas, each with 4 slices, and 1 lonely slice left over. The 5 pizzas are “5”. The 20 slices that make the 5 pizzas are “20/4”. The lonely slice is “1/4”.

When I read your post I verified two were equal: I saw the 1/4 then turned the 5 into 1/4's by seeing the five 1/1's as five 4/4's (five groups of four groups of 1/4's), which is 20/4 (twenty 1/4's), then the equation looks like: 20/4 + 1/4 = 21/4 which is obviously equal. If it isn't obviously equal, you need to read it as twenty 1/4's + one 1/4 equals twenty-one 1/4's.

So listen, she won't get it if you try to teach it to her using slices or whatever, she needs to internally figure out the mental arithmetic.

I was probably taught this using slices, but for some reason my mental arithmetic did this: >>12841001
