creating this thread for the second time: did arthropods actually evolve from nematodes? or annelids are their ancestors instead? studies of some gene clusters showed evidence for the former hypothesis (and also the fact that arthropods shed and don't have spiral cleavage), but studies of some sequenced proteins showed that arthropods may actually be closer to annelids.
