It's boring and reddit-core. If the convention was 6pi instead, I'd still use it, because it's just notation and doesn't matter.

I see the appeal, but it’s too late now. Also I think pi is more aesthetically pleasing than tau.

It's about as cringe as trying to change the sign of electron charge to +1 instead of -1. Yeah, sure, it might simplify a few things, but it would also mean rewriting so many books that it is not worth the effort in the fucking slightest. Some conventions are here to stay even if they're not "nice". Deal with the real world, kiddo.

sign of an electron is fine. just because electrons are the conduction species in metal doesn't mean that it's like that everywhere. for instance ionic solutions have both positive and negative species moving.

tau is more compelling from a learning point of view and its ease of use when conveying angles. i work with phasors often, and while i usually can cope with pi, there are still times when i speak incorrectly or do the math incorrectly in my head for angles that you don't see all the time. moreover, defining tau doesn't preclude you from using pi, unlike trying to redefine the charge of an electron as being positive. both notations can coexist without issue

Yeah, sure, I don't disagree with your point. However, as I said, you can't have all the nice things. Introducing tau would either
A. overcomplicate the literature by introducing another constant (and keep in mind, tau is already used as stuff like proper time in SR or characteristic time for exponential growth/decay)
B. will either deprecate the literature or will require that students learn both the tau and 2*pi conventions which defeats the point.

According to a teacher in my undergrad days,
the use of tau as opposed to pi for math is
"bullshit". It's a renumbering of something we use
for a long time--new look, same great taste.
So, everyone can use what they will as they
please.
