My dad was born in 1949
I was born in 1990

I'm assuming he would be approx. 40-41x my age since I was under 1 and he was 40.

But now, I am 31 and he is 72, barely 2x older than I.

How or what is the math called that turns a 40x into a 2x even though we aged at the same rate.
