Why is it that:
- MtF trannies with high voices still sound like men
- normal women with low voices still sound like women

I listen to a lot of porn audios and it's extremely, I mean extremely obvious when the girl is a tranny.

Also, I've heard a lot of deep female voices in media that sounded distinctly cisfemale to me. The voice of Winter Wyvern from Dota2 is a great example.

What actually makes a voice sound male/female?

It's obviously not pitch because there are so many low female-sounding voices and vice versa.

It's not just pitch, it's also timbre and the way the voice is used and where it comes from. Most guys make the mistake of thinking that it's enough to go for a higher register, but that only sounds like falsetto.
Girls speak in a way that resonates behind the nose whereas guys generally speak in a way that resonates in the throat. So guys have to both tighten the vocal cords, and then kind of speak in the highest comfortable limits of their natural register in a way that vibrates behind the nose. That's the way to make your voice sound genuinely female, and when you do it right it's not at all obvious that it's a male voice. I agree that most trannies online suck at this though.

If you're having trouble imagining what I mean btw, try talking in a really excited way. Like the kind of way where you laugh a bit too hard and then worry people are gonna call you a faggot because your voice went too high for a bit, or when you get way too excited about whatever you're saying. Your voice will go to the highest natural part of your range and for most guys that will actually overlap with a natural female register, so the trick is to get used to speaking in that register for longer and controlled periods of time.

Basically they sew it up to be smaller and shaped more like a “natural” females voice. You can look up some other example if you wish, but generally achieving the naturally feminine tone requires methods beyond just raising your voice.

She sounds female like 90% of the time, but at moments she sounds obviously "tranny"
