The move to renewables will not work without this technology, and this will not work unless it doesn't utilize lithium. What is the holdup?
Gigawatts are curtailed all the time because of the lack of energy storage.

Anon, nuclear is great for baseload energy, but energy demand does not stay as a straight line. Increasing the energy output is slow for nuclear plants, that's why renewables are a great alternative to peaker plants. The only problem is that the best current source, solar panels, have peak energy output hours before peak energy demand daily. That's why we need large scale energy storage.

we already have that. Works pretty well, but widescale adoption is too expensive with Lithium ion.

The move to renewable will never happen. It is barely feasible for small-scale, consumer use. Renewables will NEVER be feasible for industry, shipping, or nation-scale energy infrastructure

I don't see why this isn't possible considering the exponentially decreasing cost of solar and battery tech. I wouldn't expect large ships to try using batteries, but the largest sectors of emissions are raw material production, energy production, and transportation (cars, trucks).

Pretty much this, except that there are significant engineering logistic challenges that have not been solved. Namely the inherent volatility and stochastic nature of PV generation.

Advanced inverter tech is the main solution, although it is basically not deployed at all and there are a lot of additional challenges with that.

Really wish non energy people would just stay out of these conversations for the next 10-30 years. Nuclear shills in particular.

I'm a EE working for a utility, I know what I'm talking about. Power T+D is a solved problem, the more new meme tech you try and bolt on to the grid, the harder it is to design and control. For something as critical as a power grid, keep it simple and use tried and tested ideas and methodologies.

But these are the people that need to be convinced to use their own money to purchase said renewables/invest in the companies. What exactly do you believe is wrong with a combination of nuclear and renewables?

Glad this nigga beat me to it.

Our pivot to nuclear should be a two-pronged approach centered around a mix of massive, hyper-efficient Pickering/Bruce-style nuke plants with stuff like online refuelling and the ability to reprocess fuel that produce 3000-6000 MWe and beyond to supply baseload, augmented by naval-derived SMRs in the 300-600MWe range to serve as nuclear topper plants where their lack of efficiency isn't as much of an issue.
