I see these "articles" floating around a lot and there's been a lot of discussion about the ecological cost of mining crypto these days. I don't own any crypto but I'd like to know if these figures check out. Is it reasonable to assume that crypto miners running on renewables like hydro would have a negligible carbon footprint? The figures being touted seem to indicate that crypto mining is prohibitively costly for the climate.
