i bet you he got other offers. perimeter institute is a hard program to get into. and you only pick your advisor after you are already in grad school.

i mean, Davide Giaotto works there and has worked there since Jacob started. and would be a 1000% better choice than Smolin. but either Jacob got turned down or chose smolin willingly instead.

i mean, there are plenty of other places he could have gotten a good advisor too, if he got admitted, which surely there were other offers if he got into PI. so either he flunked out of the good advisors at PI and resorted to smolin, meaning he picked the wrong school, or he specifically was aiming for smolin, meaning he picked a horrible advisor
