Why do we have to pretend all humans are the same species when we're clearly as different from each other as the species in the canis family?

This is the real answer. Galton and Darwin (cousins) had frequent discussions on whether eugenics would invoke a sort of social evolution. Darwin was unconvinced, Galton was fervent in his position. Galtons views were used to justify passive negative eugenics in the western world. The US picked up on this, and in the SCOTUS case Buck v. Bell in the 1920s, legalized mandatory sterilizing of criminals and genetically unfit via chemical castration. Ethics leaders in the US met with presidents of other countries, including Germany, to advertise the beauty and strength in negative eugenics (sterilizing those with negative traits). They also advocated for active positive eugenics, which is the active encouragement for genetically fit people to breed. The leaders loved this idea. One in particular, Hitler, merged the two into active negative eugenics, which meant to kill off genetically inferior. This included blacks, Jews, fags, retards, etc. That's what race realism leads to, so geneticists have been weary in paying any lip service to it.

No. It led to it previously but it doesn't mean it is a necessary consequence. Burying your head in the sand collectively and shunning anyone else who does not follow suit could be seen to be responsible for the current situation the west finds itself in. Additionally just because the west is prepared to do this doesn't mean China etc won't continue on a basis more grounded in reality.
Just because one extreme is bad does not mean the other is good.

It is it's most probable consequences given the current political and social context in which the idea is present in. "slippery slope" fallacy turns out to be a justifiable belief in a back slide towards some of the more barbaric trends of the past.

Even after ww2 the leaders of the coming globalization had eugenics in mind. Look up Julian Huxley. There is no rational reason against eugenics, in fact many policies currently in place could fall under this umbrella. It's really just a massive cultural overreaction that happened later. Why do we even use a term like this, when it clearly means nothing? It's not defined by the ability to interbreed, since some different species can do that. It's not defined by differences, since clearly there are massive differences within species. It's certainly not based on genetic distance. So what does the word even mean? It's just a label for an arbitrary point in a taxonomic tree.

Are whites and blacks the same? No. Are they the same species? Who the fuck cares.

For the first time in human history only ONE species of man (genus Homo) is alive.
We know for a fact that (SOME) humans have genes from Neanderthal. The exception is Native Africans.
Africans and non-Africans are same species but non-Africans have genes that Africans do not.

Africans are different. Just about every Non-African people that interacted with Africans have described them as being intellectually slower than others, basically as "talking Animals".
