His name is Grigori Perelman. He's a mathematician/autistic genius who famously rejected the Fields Medal and the accompanying million dollar prize because he "didn't like attention" and because "awards are dumb".

He's a recluse that lives with his mom

Fields medal is the Fields medal, and the million dollar prize is from the Clay foundation. Perelman was awarded both and rejected both.

Actually, he may have done it because of all the bureaucracy - to accept a Fields medal, you must have your article published in some top scientific journals, for which you need money (which he didn't have because mathematicians in his country are poor), while he literally just posted the article on his personal website.

I hope he does. It'd be wasted talent otherwise. I can understanding ditching the politics and group-buddying of academia, but mathematics doesn't care for that. He can continue to discover on his own, and if he wishes, simply for his own amusement.

He doesn't have a personal website and he didn't post the results there. He used the archive which is meant as a pre-print before peer review.
