How is it possible for submarines (not to mention fish) to be in the Challenger Deep without being crushed by the weight of water above them? Even a few gallons of water is pretty heavy, so how can they withstand a column of water *miles* high on top of them? My intuition is that it has something to do with the amount of pressure in the water below them? Basically, how does pressure work? Not homework btw.
