I'm going to use the words placebo for placebo, nocebo, and basically anything else people confuse with the two, so don't be a smart-ass, although maybe I would appreciate a correction that doesn't require me to use on or the other, I guess.
How strong is the placebo effect? Can we even really know?
The placebo effect seems to be based around trust without knowing. If this is the case, do we limit ourselves in some ways by knowing things? Is it impossible for use to experience certain things that crazy people who believe in superstitions that go directly against [insert field and understanding of topic here] can?
We hear of 'spiritual' people having vivid hallucinations during placebo/nocebo studies where they are essentially decieved (this is something I heard about from some vsauce Michael video, if you must know). There doesn't seem to be much reason for them to delude themselves any further with their beliefs as there is no one to impress.
Then, are they experiencing things that are impossible for a person of science (person from a field of study or occuption that lies contrary to certain understandings and poses a better explanation etc.) to experience?
