>be first-year phd student
>start working with advisor in HEP theory
>based on my undergrad experience in HEP experiment, I ask her questions about the material I'm going through
>"you're supposed to figure this out on your own, anon"
>share my thoughts and ideas about the topics I want to pursue
>"don't bother me with this unless you have a finished paper"
And I thought college was a place where people shared their ideas and learned from each other...
How do I develop a skill for these things on my own? I've never written a publishable paper, and I have no idea if my ideas are correct or some insane ramblings. The faculty just dismiss it all and want me to churn out papers about their projects.
