That's the idea of the scientists and those people have no clue which genes made a particular event happen. And this is for one individual. When they start trying to get deterministic result on a population, they don't get a unique result.
Biologists have to lower the bar of certainty to make their audience believe they are scientists. Even chemistry is more deterministic than biology LOL.

Name an example. The lack of unique results are due to the nature of the mathematics used in biology. Compared to physics and chemistry, there is a lot more going on. As so many systems are interacting, it is difficult or even impossible to isolate all variables and therefore it is extremely difficult or impossible to isolate all the variables that actually determine the problem. This is a fallacy of confusing the model with the phenomenon. People make it all the time when trying to make metaphysical inferences via quantum mechanics.
