let's say you had a thing that would pop out like an awning or like top of a convertible. i've been imagining something in my head for a minute but idk shit like i know a couple words like uhh lever, actuator and pulley... i'm like retarded. it needs to be able to pop out while supporting a weight and continue supporting a weight without needing like a continuous supply of energy. so my first thought is like a cherry picker or like a jack for a car...

i'm just wondering if there is a name for this sort of like designing of shit. I can't find much info on transforming type shit.
