But a human doesn't have a working scope. It just is. It merely manifests in vain, a slave to it's desire to live. Just like with everything in the universe it has an element of desire, something which robots only manifest through deliberate installation by people. That said, AI may become complicated enough to become essentially the same, but by that time it would be sentient enough to be literally just a living thing by that stage. A living thing has a desire to live. A machine that seeks self preservation is basically the threshold for the classification of "life". A machine that does not care about this, but is merely a tool for other life is not life.
This does not include servant species or ant-esque colonists, who preserve the sake of the macro being or master entity. Ants self preserve themselves by obeying the order of the hive as an individual. A machine does not care about satisfaction. If you order it to self destruct (if it has that mechanism) it will self destruct.
This is also not the same as suicidal entities, which have elements within them that want to sustain their manifestation.
That being said, a machine with self maintenance on a small scale is arguably life like too, but obviously the degree of that is far less than what a reasonable person would call a living thing.
